"Adam: You are my miracle.
Desiréée: You are my everything.
With lines like that to savor, what's not to love in this romance by Ms. Cameron? New York Times bestselling author Stella Cameron delights her readers with About Adam, another in her Mayfair Square series.
Adam Chillwortha hard man, yet a man of principle and honor, talented artist of 7C Mayfair Squareis desperately in love with Princess Desirée. He could never have her, as she is a princess, he's much older, and her guardian has a duty to find a marriage alliance for her.
Princess Desirée has been in love with Adam since she was a teen. Now a woman, she will go to any measure necessary to have this man for her husband. She devises a plan that will get her what she wants: the love of her life, Adam.
While these two want each other, and while Adam holds his integrity to keep Desirée untouched, circumstances arise beyond both of their control. One or both of them have enemies that will go to any extreme possible to keep these two apart, all in the name of hate.
At the same time, there is a wondrous team of matchmakers, including Spivey, resident spirit, and the other residents of Mayfair Square who will also do anything to get these two together, all in the name of love.
One thing that I love about this book is the fact that everyone knows these two love each other. They keep trying to get Adam and Desiréée together, albeit secretly, because she is still under the guardianship of her brother, Jean-Marc.
While we are incredibly touched by the astounding love between Adam and Desirée, we are also privy to drama done so very well. Why is it that there are those so determined to keep these two apart? Who are their real enemies? Will Desirée and Adam find their way to each other? Is it possible that their love can surpass some of these obstacles?
Ms. Cameron weaves a fantastic tale of intrigue, drama and passion into this romance. While with the support of some of their friends, and due to some near disastrous events, Adam and Desirée do manage to get together. All danger should have been past. Was it?
I am very pleased to say that I finished this book with tears in my eyes, a lump in my throat and a huge smile on my face. Ms. Cameron will always be a favorite of mine, and reading About Adam has increased my fervor to complete my backlist search of hers. Please pick up About Adam and the rest of the Mayfair Square series for an exhilarating reading experience." Robin Taylor, In The Library Reviews
"Spivey is as happy as a ghost can be. Finally, after all the planning and maneuvering he has done, he has 7 Mayfair Square almost the way he wants it, he has one last lodger to send on his merry way, but Adam Chillworth is being difficult. Adam has some principles over the fact that he is much older then Princess Desirée, not to mention that she is a princess and he is a commoner. Spivey is just going to have to enlist some friends to make Princess Desirée, Mrs Adam Chillworth and finally the house will be empty of the lodgers.
Princess Desirée has returned to Mayfair Square after leaving months earlier with a broken heart. Adam Chillworth, the man she has loved since she was 17, still refused to see that she is no longer a child. Months away from Adam doesn't lesson the feelings that Desirée has for Adam, so she returns with a plan to make Adam realize that she is the perfect woman for him.
Adam Chillworth has done well with his painting, but he knows he is not exactly what Jean Marc, the princess' brother had in mind for a husband.Adam is determined to remain a friend to the princess and resigned to the fact that when she does marry it may be the end of their relationship.
ABOUT ADAM is the next installment in the popular Mayfair Square series by Stella Cameron and was definitely worth the wait this reader had for the story of Adam and Desirée. Not only does Desirée have to deal with Adam's principles, but she and Adam have to find out why someone else doesn't want their marriage to happen.
ABOUT ADAM brings back popular characters Jenny, Latimer, Hunter and Sibyl and of course Spivey. Spivey's comments throughout ABOUT ADAM are worth the price of the book alone.
ABOUT ADAM is without a doubt my favorite of the Mayfair series and I know you will love this as much as I did." Barb Hicks
In ABOUT ADAM, the Late Sir Septimus Spivey is at it again in this, the last installment of Stella Cameron's hugely popular Historical Mayfair Square Series. Spivey is a ghost whose pals include "Will" Shakespeare, and he's up in arms at the behavior of the residents of his house at 7 Mayfair Square. His frustrations abound, but being privy to his musings throughout the story will have you laughing out loud.
Aptly titled ABOUT ADAM, Ms. Cameron takes us on a journey of self-discovery for a man whose past is as dark as his artistic talent is renowned. His life before he came to live in the attic, marked 7C Mayfair Square is a mystery, filled with shady characters and dangerous liaisons. But even as Adam battles a foe from his past, he must fight to keep his heart safe from the lovely Princess Desirée, though he knows it's already too late. She owns his heart, but Adam refuses to allow it. Desirée is years younger than the scarred, jaded Adam, and he is well below her station. He can't let her girlish desires for him, an older man, cloud her thinking and destroy her chance at the life to which she is accustomed. The only problem is that every time he and Desirée come in contact with each other, Adam doesn't think of the Princess as a girl. She's all woman, and her intentions are anything but childlike.
Princess Desirée has been in love with Adam for many of her twenty years, and while she went away to heal her broken heart, she's back at 7 Mayfair Square. But she didn't come without a plan! She poses as Adam's platonic friend, but her compromise is as hard on Adam as it is on her, much to her delight. Will Desirée's ardor wear Adam down enough to see that she is the only woman that he will ever truly love?
Danger from Adam's past lurks around every corner. Will he be able to protect her when every glimpse of her is a distraction that he cannot afford? Their lives are at stake, but Adam's heart is in peril as well. Will he lose it to a woman he is determined that he can never have? And will Desirée lose her love if Adam fails to keep them both safe and dies in the process?
Join Adam and Desirée at Mayfair Square as we visit with old friends from previous stories and see them conspire to ensure that this couple meets their destiny...in each other's arms. But in this "hold-your-breath" read, don't rule out those evil forces that also seek to destroy them. And rely on Spivey to keep us informed, as he plots a resolution of his own.
Ms. Cameron's ability to paint a picture with her words is the very reason she is an auto-buy for this reviewer. She never disappoints. The sexual tension escalates all throughout ABOUT ADAM, and readers will be entertained to the very last page! Morgan Leigh
"London, 1824
Princess Desirée of Mont Nuages is heir to a fortune and quite above Adam Chillworth in life's station. At least that's what Adam tries to convince himself; however, the princess has a goal in mind: marriage. Adam is 35 to Desirée's young 20 and is convinced that he's too old to be the proper husband. He's afraid she'll grow bored and tire of his plain life. Adam is a simple painter who lives on his earnings and one who does not have or need money. He lives at 7C, Mayfair Square, the attic of a boarding house, and he is a proud man, one who cannot bear the thought that society will think ill of him if he pursues his love for Desirée.
Desirée goes all mushy around Adam and lives in a world of fantasy love, hearing things she only imagines. They are so much in love, each trying so hard to find a way to make their dreams real in a society that doesn't understand. Unbeknownst to both Desirée and Adam, there are others who wish them to marry, the least of which is Sir Septimus Spivey, resident ghost of Number 7 Mayfair Square, who sets about making things happen the best way a spirit can. Adam's pride and Desirée's stubbornness might well do them both in, because while others are trying to bring them together, there is someone who wishes to end their alliance. This unseen, unknown enemy will stop at nothing short of murder to reach the end. Danger lurks around every corner for Desirée and Adam, full of secrets that are best kept locked away.
ABOUT ADAM is a delightfully fun, yet suspenseful story. Desirée is a refreshing heroine who flaunts the conventions of her time, and charges full speed ahead to pursue her goals. Adam is a bitter and proud man who allows her to get under his skin just a little, enough to sneak her way right into his heart. Their verbal sparring is fun reading. Desirée's sexually heated words taunt Adam, who is becoming quite frustrated with her, but resists defying convention. Passionate love scenes are so skillfully done, I found myself actually reading them without the feeling I was intruding.
ABOUT ADAM is the fifth book in Ms. Cameron's series about 7 Mayfair Square, and although I had difficulty in the beginning, it didn't take long to catch up. Ms. Cameron has a wonderful page on her website, www.StellaCameron.com, devoted to a tour of the boarding house. This book is the first of Ms. Cameron's I have had the pleasure to read and it is only the initial in a long line of her backlist that I will seek out. ABOUT ADAM is a must buy for your reading list this month, and I highly recommend it. Rich in the flavor and atmosphere of the time and populated with quirky and lovable characters, this is a story not to be missed." Diana Risso, Romance Reviews Today
