Scene #65
Here there be... A.N.G.E.L.s (Not your mother's guardian
angels!) As the world's population grows larger every day,
what if there were not enough Guardian Angels to go around? What
if certain mortal souls were recruited after death to serve the
human race for the Archangels… covertly? And what if those
recruits became not just any angel, but a Guardian A.N.G.E.L.,
sworn to protect and serve, to not interfere with free will, to get
the couples together that should be together... and to do this
against all odds and dangers? In “Educating Ruby”, a complex
story about love, laughter, and redemption, Guardian A.N.G.E.L.
RUBY is in danger of failing her Assignments. Three high
Archangels summon and give her a test: save ED MACKINTOSH without
becoming emotionally invested. But they do not give her any
information on what “saving” really means. It has never been her
job to save souls, and she is not about to start now! Before she
can find out anything further, she is unceremoniously flung across
the dimensions to land in the cold ocean water of Puget Sound,
fully clothed and on her way to mortally drowning. High
school coach Ed, newly suspended for the summer due to his own
stupidity, wallows and curses his brother for dumping too smart
ex-police-dog Winston on him to dogsit for a couple weeks. Between
his own misery and Winston the Wonder Dog's destruction fetish, Ed
is at the end of his rope. During an incoming ocean storm, Winston
leads him to the water's edge to find a beautiful mysterious
stranger: a stranger with no identification, no idea where she is,
and no clear answer on how she got into the water in the first
place. Ruby, discovering that her gorgeous lifesaver is none
other than the subject of her test, is confused. What did the
Archangels mean by “save Ed”? Without further details from either
the Archangels or any input from her own Guide, she decides to
indulge in every mortal sensation in her newly acquired body:
sight, taste, smell, sound, touch, and Ed. Unable to lie,
Ruby tells him her purpose and he thinks she is crazy: she can not
be an angel... and he knows he does not need “saving”. During
an accident at a big tourist event, she discovers she has retained
one very real Guardian power: the ability to heal. Miraculously
healing two people with many eye witnesses only causes dissension,
splitting the island's occupants in two. Fighting her way to be
accepted and understood amongst the townsfolk, she finds it may not
be so easy to re-assume humanity when half the island believes she
is demonically possessed and want her gone. Immediately! Can
Ruby fight the townsfolk AND the highest Archangels to stay with
Ed, regardless of the consequences? Was her test really HER test,
or was it Ed's? Or both? Or will she learn the cruelest
lesson of all: never lose your heart? “Educating Ruby” is a
complex fast-paced story with unique characters that takes place on
a big fictional island in the mouth of Puget Sound named Mariner's
Point. The novel has humorous, witty dialog with a very happy
ending, blending intrigue with romance, mixing human reality with
an unseen alternate megaverse controlled by Archangels, Warrior
class Guardians outfitted in regal armor and bladed weapons, and
A.N.G.E.L. Guides. Romance with wings... and not a prayer in
sight.
