Scene #5
Darkness Anew
The darkness, very demanding, enveloped her and lifted her to a new world she had never experienced before. Not like this. Not this dark or meaningful. Always before the blackness twirled around her first, then it would gently settle on her. The more Marley struggled the heavier her breathing, and the heavier the sensation became. Her heart beat stronger as the new experience she was fighting caressed her into a warm embrace. Like a protective blanket it lulled her. She stopped struggling and little by little gave in to the new feeling and let it take her deeper into a new territory. She wasn't afraid, but felt she should be. She couldn't tell if she was dreaming or if she was awake. Were her senses trying to confuse her? Marley couldn't really tell. All she knew was that ever since she was brought into the human race, the darkness she knew made her feel safer than the daylight. All she had to do was close her eyes to the outside world and she was drawn into another world that no one, or nothing could touch her as long as she stayed quiet. But this amazing thing felt poles apart than what she was use to as the sensation of falling took her deeper into the realm of night.
Suddenly as the falling sensation subsided, and the blackness held her, off in the distance Marley heard, or thought she heard something like soft breathing. Was it her own echoing in her ears? She held her breath. There it was again, very distinctly, low breathing. Definitely not her own, someone or something was there with her. She knew now that she was not dreaming and had to keep her wits about her. All of a sudden her body tingled. Don't open your eyes. You have practiced this. You know how long you can hold your breath. Drift along and it can't be made aware of you.
The awareness of the breathing grew stronger. Marley floated along absorbed in the sound when quite unexpectedly she heard a thump, thump, which made her body tingle even more. What was it? Her long dark hair floated up around her, giving her a protective barrier against whatever was in the mysterious blackness with her. The soft breathing, along with the thump, thump, like a heart-beat, came even closer. Was it following her, or was she following it? Marley had to find out. Should she open her eyes? If she did this new experience would be no more. Should she risk loosing it, or reach deeper with her mind into it and ignore the sound completely? Without warning Marley tingled as gentle wet kisses were being displaced all over her body, then a very light breathing swept by her right ear. Swiftly she opened her eyes and gasped for breath.
