2009 Scarlet Boa

Scene #14

The University of Washington campus is beautiful in the daylight and downright creepy at almost midnight. Shelly Wright walked briskly from the library to her dorm room, mentally cursing herself for ending up alone and walking. She was also cursing herself for being scared. She was on a safe campus. It's not like someone was going to attack her.

There was no sound as the man moved from the shadows and silently stalked Shelly.

He was dressed all in black. If he didn't want her to see him, she wouldn't. This time he wanted her to see him, feel him, fear him; it always made it more fun to hear their hearts beat faster. Feel their blood pump more quickly. And taste their fear. That was what he really wanted; the taste of her fear.

He moved quickly. Anyone watching Shelly would have thought she just disappeared. He pulled her into the shadows, fisted his hand into her dark brown hair, and ripped her head back. Resting the knife at the carotid artery on the side of her neck, he put his nose into her hair and took a deep breath.

His dark voice seemed to reverberate in Shelly's skull. "Don't make a sound or it will be your last." His voice was somehow familiar, but Shelly was having trouble thinking clearly.

He dragged the knife lightly across Shelly's throat and the thin line of blood looked black in the shadows. The cut wasn't deep but she became even more scared and began to whimper softly.

He closed his eyes and relied on thousands of years of evolution to take over. His tongue snaked out to lick away the blood and the small slice instantly healed, leaving behind only a welt-like mark.

He decided to show her exactly what he was capable of. Exactly what he was.

It took over an hour for Shelly to die. She never did make any noises above the terrified whimper he loved to hear. Her almost bloodless body would be found propped against one of the many trees that dotted the beautiful UW campus.

Her entire naked body was covered in welt-like burn marks. The first mark on her throat would never be seen because most of her neck was now missing. It had been removed like a slice of bread. It would also be blamed for her death by bleed-out.

Seattle didn't know that Death had come to the Emerald City. But soon His wrath would be known to all.

Shelly's pale lips had tried to mouth the impossible word.

"Vampire."
