2007 Scarlet Boa

    Scene #36

Into the night Saffron strayed. Will only called after her once walking to the cabin door to look out on the deck just in time to see a head of red hair and the rippling of a pink skirt disappear around a distant corner. He quickly clutched up his jacket and keys and headed out the cabin door after his wife of three days.

Will walked the decks for sometime, his shoes slipping on condensation. The ocean breeze blew in his face, tearing his eyes, giving him the look of weeping. Will didn't normally cry, but he had during their wedding. The realization that he was becoming Saffron’s husband and she, his wife had been too much. He even managed to fumble her ring so it fell to the floor rolling into a grate. Rather than scold Saffron just smiled, her eyes saying what her voice did not. It was all well and he knew it was. Saffron clutched his shaking hands and held them tight kissing them every so often as Charlie the best man took apart the grate retrieving the ring. The wedding congregation cheered when the ring was at last placed on Saffron’s finger and she admired it before giving Will the most memorable kiss of his life.

The next day they had set off on their Honeymoon cruise and Saffron had been acting curious every since. Both mechanical engineers by trade, Saffron and Will, loved to explore objects by taking them apart. Yet Saffron had never acted as she did the previous morning. While Will was asleep she had deconstructed the entire bed with him on it without any tools. Being awoken by the mattress falling to the floor he had asked her what she was doing.

Saffron shrugged then stated "I suppose I just got bored waiting for you to wake. I think I'll go have breakfast now. You want me to bring something back?"

"I thought we would go and eat together, my love, as soon as we fix this bed." Will had replied but only to the closing door.

It was now that he still searched for his wife only to find her in the form of two hands clasped around the balcony’s guard rail.

"What are you doing!" he scolded looking over the edge at her as the deep black ocean rippled ominously below.

Most surprisingly Saffron let go of the guard rail catching hold of the ship’s side, her hands and feet sticking like magnets.

"I'm sinking this ship. How else do you think they get sunk?" said Saffron matter-of-factly before using her teeth to quickly remove the rivets at a seam. Her hands tearing the gash open deep beneath the water line as sirens with pulsating lights began to blare.

    " Why?" said Will desperately.

"That’s what gremlins do. I like destruction."

"You're going to kill us all."

"No not you love. Now come" Saffron said clutching tight to Will before bounding them skyward and into a gust of wind.
